Valentine Hearts & Garland

When I was with my Mom, we went to one of our favorite stores and I saw some cute Valentine items. I decided that I could figure out how to make a couple of them, but have only gotten around to trying this one!

These little hearts are so easy - I freehand cut a heart and hand stitched on the corduroy heart. Then, I stitched around the outside edge of the heart and stuffed with filling. I have only made two - but I picture them in some neat apothecary type jars on top of my china cabinet someday.

Note: the original ones I saw had calico as the top fabric - but I looked and looked and didn't see anything I liked. I found this brown with pink polka dots as a remnant for 12 cents! Gotta love that!

Next up - Emily has been especially interested in Valentine's Day this year. Including wanting to decorate her room! I saw this idea via Crafty Crow and made it in one evening for less than $2! The little ladies love it!

Find a list of previous Valentine ideas here. I am feeling a bit uninspired as to how we will celebrate Valentine's Day around here - what are the rest of you planning?

Monica,
We are celebrating by going to Chik-fil-A. They are having a Valentine Dinner Special. White table linens, music, flowers, and a special menu. You even have to have reservations. Might be something you want to check into there. Plus it is very kid friendly :) Hope you are doing well.

Family Focused V-day
This year we have decided that we are going to take on a different flow for the v-day holiday and make it a family fun night. We typically don't hype it up, understanding that thee is some mythical history to some extent, we just take advantage of a mama and daddy date. So here is the plan. We are going to make the focus 1Corinthians 13:4. We will do a simple yet fun dinner in the evening. We will plan to create a fun inexpensive centerpiece. Perhaps some carnations and handcrafted lovey items. I am going to use pinks and reds for our color theme. Each person will have a handmade crafted place setting. We will make individual name tags to set on the plate. Each of the children will have a box of sweethearts next to their plate on a heart napkin.(these were cheap at HEB...napkins 1.00 and candy.25). The adults will have a chocolate crunch heart. Then I will make up questions or edifying things to do or say and write them on a piece of heartsy paper that will pertain to love. Each person will be given one under their name tag. While we are eating we will answer or fulfill what is written on the piece of paper. This point is to share love and discuss love. After dinner we will also have an extra fun dessert. I will post a picture on this yummy dessert afterwards. But, perhaps there are some of you who might like to take advantage of making it a family event. We will share more pics after the fact. May the love of Christ dwell richly in our hearts.

Your hearts turned out great!

We keep Valentine's Day simple. We will deliver our heart sharped cookies to our wonderful neighbor and the grandparents on Saturday morning. For lunch we will grab something quick while out. For dinner I am making heart shaped mini meatloafs and heart shaped roasted potatoes. I just hope they hold their shape!

Ooh, I love your hearts!! My mom is actually taking the kids for the weekend. In some ways I am sad I won't have them for the holiday, but am kind of glad my husband and I can have a date weekend. If the kids would be here I would make a yummy meal and make brownies{with a candy bar in the middle-pour a little batter, lay out the candy bars, pour rest of batter} cut into heart shapes with ice cream on the side. I am also going to cover formula cans with scrapbook paper and add a handle and give them a few little goodies. I will do that tonight to give them tomorrow.
You have so many great ideas and I know you will make it special for your family!!

That is so cute. My son is really into it this year. He has been printing off Dora valentine's for everyone. :) We are planning on decorating and making/decorating sugar cookies and then doing some special kid-friendly dinner. I also want to look up some verses on love and perhaps find a little preschool appropriate Bible lesson on it.

We've been slowly crafting and baking all week. And now my sweet girl is sick and has to stay home from her school party--bummer! We don't have any big traditions on the actual day, but we will deliver heart-shaped cookies and share a few small presents. Besides that, my husband and I are going on a date with friends; I can't wait!

I am interested in what a previous commentor said about going to Chick-Fil-A. I checked their website and did not see any special events listed. If anyone, or "SWeston", has more info, I'd be delighted if you could share.
I have been following "The Beautiful Thrifty Life" in her 14 days of Valentines for our husbands. Because isn't that what this holiday is about. I have done something special for my hubby 11 days, and so far I have only spent $1.50! For example, on 2/8 I made a list of 8 things that he does that are GR8!
My church youth is offering a babysitting night on Friday with the donations to go to missions. Also, our pastor and his wife are having special prayer for couples in the sanctuary after the kids are in the gym. We signed our kids up because it will also be a fun social activity for them. We plan to come home and cook our dinner together during that time.
Monica-you have some wonderful ideas from years past. Just use one of those. Kids love the same thing from year to year; then it is considered a tradition.
BTW, I "borrowed" your idea for the Teddy Graham goodie bags. For my daughter's class, I included a snack size ziploc of Teddy Grahams and a single serving pack of hot cocoa. I stapled a piece of paper across the top of the bag with "Bear Hugs to Warm your Heart" typed on it.
You can check out my blog for an idea for teacher's gifts!

Cute hearts!! My husband and I decided to include our kids in this year's Valentine's celebration. We are going out to supper at our local mom and pop cafe (to die for pie!) and then we are going to go see Hotel for Dogs. Not very romantic but we are all looking forward to it. It will be fun to have the kids along! Happy Valentine's Day!

I was thinking that we would have play centered about Valentine's and we made cupcakes for daddy. I will probably try to make one of his favorite recipes. But I would love some more ideas also!

Great hearts, I love the crafty crow.

I will write love notes to all my children letting them know how special they are to me. Also will enjoy making them a special breakfest on Saturday. Even though they are celebrating tomorrow at school I still want to do something with them on Saturday.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for sharing the cute hearts. :)

We are all going over to my oldest daughter's to play games with the kids (Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders). Then, we'll make strawberry milkshakes and watch old home movies. I'm excited for the night!

I love the cute piggy pancakes, and the adorable happy faces of your littles! Glad you had a more enjoyable experience in the kitchen with them this time! I have to keep my younger one out of the kitchen/dining room with baby gates, or he will start pulling stuff out of the dishwasher! :P

I think those hearts would be especially special if you used some scraps from your littles' outgrown or worn out clothing (or the dresses you have made them) as the top pieces! It sounds like you have lots of pink, and they would be fun memories as you pulled them out each year. :) Leslie
