Do we really remember?

I've seen the signs and announcements all over town and the web. I've read the blog posts and seen all the remembrances of 9-11-01:

We will not forget.

And, yet - as David and I were talking this morning and trying to explain this to our girls - I realize that our nation has forgotten. Of course, we remember 9-11 and the attacks on America. Of course, we remember the tragedy. Of course, we won't forget that or where we were when we found out about the tragedies in our nation.

But do you remember what came after that? Singing God Bless America? Flags in every window? Softer hearts towards our neighbors? Joining together? Turning towards God?

That attitude has not lasted in our country and honestly, it seems that America has forgotten. As a nation, we have forgotten God. We have forgotten our dependence on Him. We have forgotten to turn to Him as a nation.

While we remember 9-11-01, let us pray for the revival of America and her hearts being turned back to God.

Our church planned a great service today reminding us of our need for God, reminding us that God was there on 9-11 just as He is still with us today, with great songs celebrating our freedom.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord...

Couldn't agree more! We were talking about this in church this morning. This nation needs God, and yet, we try to eliminate him from everything.....schools, courts, government......we need to fall to our knees and repent!

Thanks! I see many ways that we have forgotten and left God out of our lives.
I remember that day so clearly. My oldest was 16 months old. She does not remember. My son was born 10 months to the day after 9-11.

Amen.
My pastor was leading a church located about 4 miles from the WTC in 2001. His viewpoint was from a very personal stance. His sermon today was entitled "Finding the Cross in the Chaos." Very poignant.

Amen! 9/11 awoke a sleeping giant, that then hit the snooze button. Our Nation is under God's blessings. If only we would receive them, and turn to him, the blessings would overflow! We need an awakening and I hope it does not come at a greater cost!

I pray constantly that as a nation we would turn our hearts back towards Him. It distresses me how far from His ways we have turned. You are exactly right.

Amen! My younger brother was killed in the WTC that day...and what kept us going in the initial days of confusion, chaos, misinformation, shock and grief was our faith and the way our nation pulled together. Every "God Bless America" felt like a personal blessing... and in the years since I have come to feel that perhaps many have taken the blessings of growing up in our nation for granted?
