Slow: Deuteronomy

A few months ago I was sharing thoughts on finding the idea of slow in the Bible. I have pages more handwritten notes sitting and waiting I just hadn't gotten to typing them in here. Picking back up now - I'll continue to work on typing up these posts.

Deuteronomy 7:10, "But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him."

This is a great contrast to other passages I've posted which communicate how God is slow to anger. When we reject Christ, this would be our reality, what a sad picture this brings to mind.

Deuteronomy 23:21, "If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin."

There is a time when slowness is discouraged. And, we all know the struggle of a slowness that is laziness, time wasted, etc. Sitting in traffic - a slow we would not choose that frustrates for example. This is really the pulse of choosing a slow heart and spirit. We don't want to be slow to surrender to His will nor slow to glorify Him, obey or worship Him. When we delay or are slow to keep our word to God - we sin. Responding or keeping our word slowly is not choosing God's way. But choosing a heart of slow is refusing to crowd God out with the busy-ness of lots of other things.
